The Sirna family is proud of the effort
that Joseph Sirna and his family has made throughout his lifetime,
to get his family business to the level it is today.
Who would have thought that in 1930 when a 5 year old boy
named Joe, who lived on the South side of Chicago upstairs
from his father's market, would continue in the food business
along with his own family? To this day he can remember helping
his father in the business along side his brother and two
sisters.
In 1942 due to the effects of the depression, Joe left Chicago
and came to Cleveland for a job opportunity with a relative
who had a grocery store. His father was closing the store
in Chicago and planned on moving the remainder of his family
and open their own store in Cleveland. Unfortunately the
war began in 1942 and Joe was drafted into the Army. This
delayed the opening of the new family venture until 1945
when Joe returned home from the service. During Joe's tour
of duty his father was content on working at his relative's
store. As Joe's father counted the days of his son's return
home, Joe was dreaming of helping his father in his new grocery
store.
In 1945 it finally all came together, Joe's
Food Market opened on 61st and Woodland in Cleveland. This
new store was the dream they both had been waiting for.
Joe and his dad worked side by side for almost ten years
until they were joined by the other son Sam.
